An innovative fake tan product billed as a cross between face wipes, an exfoliator and a gradual tan has been dubbed the 'holy grail' by shoppers.

Almost everyone who's reviewed Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pad Self Tanner has awarded it the full five stars on both beauty retailer Space NK and Australian beauty site Mecca.

The clever individually-wrapped wipes, £34 for 20 towelettes, come soaked in skin-smoothing alpha and beta hydroxy acids that promise to tighten pores, eliminate blackheads and fade existing sunspots. They're also layered with DHA - the tanning ingredient responsible for delivering a subtle faux glow.

While many best-selling skincare products boast the power ingredients, the speedy pads are unique in combining both for a double skin-boosting whammy.

"It got my acne under control and I knew if I had an active spot than the peel would reduce its size and angriness. My skin literally glowed - I've never seen it look so good," wrote one happy customer.

"This is the best self tanner on the market, "These are a revelation for travel," and "I want my product to do AT LEAST two or three things for me at once. This one does," others rave.

The pads come in two colour variants - Gradual Glow for those wanting a subtle sun-kissed shade and Intense Glow that lends skin a deeper hue. They're designed to be swept evenly over a clean face, neck and décolletage then left to develop over three or four hours for lasting colour.

They're part of a range by leading celebrity skin expert Dr Dennis Gross whose superstar clientele includes Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Jourdan Dunn and Kim Kardashian.

The rave reviews come as another popular tan brand launches a one-of-a-kind facial tanner spiked with anti-ageing retinol.

James Read Gradual Tan Sleep Mask Face Retinol, £30, uses the buzz ingredient to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles while building a gentle tan overnight - all while you snooze.
