These Self-Heating Eye Masks Are Being Credited For Curing Insomnia

These Self-Heating Eye Masks Are Being Credited For Curing Insomnia

Sometimes falling asleep at night feels like an impossible dream. In fact the current epidemic of insomnia is much discussed and now takes its toll on hundreds of thousands of sleepless people, desperate for an interrupted night of sleep.

Products like pillow sprays or herbal teas can often help with insomnia, but now there's a new kid on the block when it comes to potential solutions to getting some shuteye.

The internet is currently raving over a newly launched self-heating sleep mask and it's being touted by many as an effective way to get to sleep.

The Spacemask, priced at £15 for a box, is a one of a kind concept in that the eye mask HEATS on your eyes. In fact, when we tested it, as you tear the product out of its packaging you can feel the mask quickly beginning to heat up.

The process works thanks to a thin layer of iron filings reacting with oxygen in the air, which the manufacturers says is totally safe.

You fit the eye mask to your face by hooking small loops around your ears, and the mask promises to help you fall asleep - it's that simple.

I was a little dubious that a jasmine-scented heated pad over my eyes - that only lasts around 15 to 20 minutes - would make me fall asleep in that time.

Like everyone I have nights where my brain just won't switch off and these always seem to fall before an important day. And falling asleep within 15 minutes is always a rarity for me.

But after fitting the Spacemask, I could quickly see its appeal - the cosy warmth spreading over my eyes was truly blissful, and I honestly felt instantly calmer as I put my head to the pillow.

I know I fell asleep more or less as soon as snuggled into bed as I didn't remember much else in the morning other than being whisked off to another world.

The eye mask didn't stay on throughout the night as I must have taken it off in my sleep. Any worries that I'd have dry eyes from the heated pad in the morning were gone, and I felt (and looked) like I'd had a solid eight hours.

As someone who struggles with eczema, the jasmine scent was low enough in concentrate not to irritate my skin. Would I recommend? 100 per cent. It's a cult product in the making, if not already.

You can purchase boxes of the masks for £15 for a pack of five here. Even if you can't afford to use one of these every night, you could keep some stashed away in your bedside table for the times you find yourself struggling to get some shut eye.
