A woman has warned against buying PrettyLittleThing swimwear after being told that it wasn't suitable to wear in water, calling it "absolutely laughable".
The unhappy customer contacted the brand's customer service team after her £60 Teal Sequin Tassel bikini set began leaking blue dye when immersed in water, only to be told the website states the set shouldn't be worn in water.
When she asked where it warns against wearing the two-piece in water on the website, the women discovered the rather vague 'poolside posing only' warning.
Taking to Twitter, she wrote: "Be cautious when buying SWIMwear from @OfficialPLT this summer because it's only for 'poolside posing' and they'll still charge you £60 a set, absolutely laughable."
Her tweet has since received over 54 thousand likes and over 17 thousand retweets, with many users sharing the customer's disappointment.
One user joked: "POOLSIDE POSING lmaaoooo [sic] so they're making swimwear strictly for IG models now?"
While another cleverly pointed out: "How are u [sic] meant to wash it ??? even if it's just for 'poolside posing' it still has to be washed lol."
One Twitter user even shared her own story of leaky PrettyLittleThing swimwear in solidarity, saying: "At least [sic] you didn't look like you wet yourself in the middle of Marbella."
Despite the brand refunding the woman and offering her 40 per cent off her next purchase, the customer explained that she decided to take the issue to the complaints department, saying: "I do not think 'poolside posing' is sufficient when disclosing that this item is not water safe."
She added: "I know it says on the website but I just don't think it's clear enough and it's just shocking to see how influencers have led to products like this being made."
A spokesperson for PrettyLittleThing told Pretty52: "PrettyLittleThing does advise customers on the styles which we do not recommend be worn for swimming.
"These are highlighted as 'pool side posing' only and are designed for day/evening wear holiday dressing/pool side posing. If customers are unsure, our customer service team are available to advise further on which styles cannot be worn for swimming."
There are only a few things we demand from our swimwear, and one is that you should be able to swim in it. Are we really asking for that much?!
