The Purge Has Been Renewed For A Second Season

USA Network has confirmed that it has renewed The Purge for a second season - choosing to announce the news on election day in the States.

The date also coincided with the end of the first TV series on Tuesday evening.

The Purge is a horror movie spin-off, being based on the film of the same name, and had fans of the genre hooked with every single episode.

Executive producer Jason Blum of the TV series confirmed the big news, announcing: "[Series creator] James DeMonaco has done it again: The propulsive and compelling story he created for season one of The Purge truly resonated with audiences in a significant way.

"We are thrilled to embark on season two and can't wait to bring more of James' vision to USA and fans of The Purge."

The Purge is set on set during an annual holiday where all crimes, including murder, are legal for an entire 24 hours. The Purge follows a group of people who are just trying to survive the night.

This last series starred Gabriel Chavarria, Hannah Anderson, Jessica Garza, Lili Simmons, Amanda Warren, Colin Woodell and Lee Tergesen.

In a statement, president of Entertainment Networks for NBC Universal Cable Entertainment Chris McCumber said: "USA Network is so proud to be the television home for the iconic franchise, The Purge.

"The partnership and creative trust of Jason Blum and everyone at Blumhouse Television and Universal Pictures ensured The Purge's successful transition from film to TV - and, along with Universal Cable Productions, we look forward to digging even deeper into the mythology in season 2."

The renewal announcement didn't share a release date, although it's likely it will premiere in September next year if this last series is anything to go by.
