ITV has finally confirmed the official start date of this year's series of Love Island.

Fans can expect the first episode to kick off on ITV2 on Monday, 3rd June as the Islanders make their way into the Majorcan villa for a long, hot summer (provided they don't get dumped from the island in the first round of recouplings).

This means there are just two weeks until the programme begins, so make a date in your diaries and cancel your social plans for the foreseeable future.

The broadcaster confirmed the start date on Twitter on Monday morning, in a video which simply read: "#DayDotIsComing."

Host Caroline Flack appears in the short clip, floating into the picture on a pink lilo along with the Love Island start date.

Love Island appears to have picked up a new slogan ahead of the series - 'day dot is coming' - to help hype up the excitement among fans of the hit reality dating show who have been desperate to know when it'll be back on TV this summer.

Caroline also shared the same clip to her own Instagram, along with the caption: "And off we go ....." adding a love heart and palm tree emoji to her post.

Fans were pleased by the long-awaited news of an official start date, as one wrote: "YAAAAAAY!"

Meanwhile, somebody else enthused: "That music makes me very happy."

"Save the date we're watching this at mine," added another, tagging their friend.

While the Islanders' identities are yet to be revealed, show bosses have been teasing fans with short previews.

Last week, a series of teasers were shared through cryptic billboards which mysteriously popped up across London.

No doubt, it's going to be a long hot summer and we cannot wait!
