Soggy bottoms ahoy, the 2018 series of Great British Bake Off has finally got a release date...

Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding will all be back on our tellies later this month, as the upcoming series will all kick off on Tuesday, 28th August at 8pm.

Of course, the show will be airing over on Channel 4 after the broadcaster took it on last year.

GBBO announced the air date on Twitter, along with the caption: "Set your egg timers. The Great British Bake Off returns Tuesday 28 August. 8pm. @channel4 #GBBO."

Fans have all rushed to share in their excitement that the show will be back on screens sooner than anticipated.

"Yaaaaaaas. I'm so happy about this!" exclaimed one person on the social media sharing site, and another person gushed: "OMG yesss best news I've seen today!"

"Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay been waiting far toooo long for this," shared a third.

A fourth declared: "Best time of the year!!!!"

By the sounds of things, there are going to be plenty of cake disasters on this year's Great British Bake Off, as all of the star baker wannabes ended up trying to craft incredible bakes in a marquee in the middle of a heatwave.

As you've probably already guessed, tempering chocolate and trying to get mousses to set while the tent resembles something more like an oven is a pretty hard feat to accomplish.

A source told the Sun's Bizarre Column: "There were some very anxious moments in the famous white tent, particularly as things approached the showstoppers. Anything remotely capable of melting was struggling as the temperatures continued to rise.

"There were a few close calls but producers did a fine job at trying to keep everybody away from a literal meltdown."

The tabloid claimed that Prue, Paul, Sandi and Noel worked as hard as possible to keep the contestants as cool as cucumbers during the show. I mean, it could have been Iain Watters' Baked Alaska disaster all over again...

Jot down the date in your diaries, gals. It looks like this one isn't to be missed.
