When faced with the threat of extra baggage fees, most of us just stuff what we can into our hand luggage and hope for the best.
But not John Irvine. The 46-year old Scotsman came up with a genius idea to bypass the strict easyJet luggage regulations and to be honest, we can't believe we haven't thought of it sooner.
When told his bag was 8kg over the limit for his flight back from Nice in France to Edinburgh airport, John simply decided to wear the extra weight by piling on 15 tops and jumpers to avoid paying the excess fee. In 30-degree heat.
What. A. Hero.
With easyJet's excess baggage rules set at £12 per kilo, it meant John would have had to fork out £96 had he not been so quick to think on his feet, and luckily for us, his son Josh caught the whole episode on camera.
Josh, 17, told Metro.co.uk: "We were coming home back to Bearsden, Glasgow from France on Saturday night and we never thought we'd be over the weight limit by 8kg."
"The lassie at the counter asked us if we wanted to pay extra but my dad just looked up at her and said: "Hen, watch this" and zipped open the suitcase and quickly flung on about 15 jumpers to help cut down the weight," he added.
"The staff were in stitches but trying to get through security was a struggle because they thought he was trying to smuggle something under all his clothes."
The family made it through eventually though, and since then Josh's clip has gone viral with over 4,000 share and 35.2k likes.
This isn't the first time a passenger has got around a less-than-generous luggage policy in ingenious style. Last year, a Ryanair passenger took matters into his own hands by converting an old coat into a wearable suitcase, with toiletry bags sewn in and all.
We're not sure we'd go that far to save the extra cash, but we do appreciate the effort.
