A six-year-old girl from China must take care of her paralysed father every day, after her mum abandoned them.

Jia Jia, who hails from Ningxia Province in China, plays a vital role in her dad's survival, after he was badly injured when a taxi he was travelling in crashed into a ditch.

The accident left Tian Haicheng paralysed from the waist down, and he is now unable to carry out simple everyday tasks, like brushing his teeth, meaning his daughter must help him.

Shortly after the tragedy, Jia's mother left the family, taking the little girl's brother with her.

Every morning, little Jia gets up at 6am to massage her dad's muscles for half an hour, before she helps him out of bed using a lift and gets him ready for the day.

She then heads out for a full day at school, before coming home to help her dad.

She makes his dinner and helps him into bed, before doing it all over again the next morning. Jia's elderly grandparents look after Tian during the day, while his daughter is at school.

Jia told the Yangtzi Evening News: "Looking after my dad, I don't feel tired at all."

Tian hasn't heard from his wife and son since they left two months after the taxi crash.

He said: "She told me on the day that she was going to stay in her mother's home for a few days. But she never returned, and she took our son with her."

Tian is so grateful for his young daughter, describing her as his 'hands'.

She's learnt how to care for her dad, and apparently she is pretty good at keeping his stubble in check.

Jia said: "At the beginning, I didn't know how to shave, and I cut dad's face and it bled. But dad said it wasn't painful.

"Now, I'm very good at shaving his beard. My grandmother says I shave it very clean."

When asked if she misses her mum, Jia said: "No, because she doesn't look after dad. But I miss my brother. I used to be very close to him. I miss him."
