Nurse Shares Uplifting Post Revealing The Realities Of Mental Health Problems

A student has shared her inspiring story of how she went from being a patient in a psychiatric ward to starting a nursing placement in one.

Chloe Sheridan, who studies in Dundee, told her followers that things 'don't stay hard forever' as she recounted her uplifting journey.

The Essex-born student's post, which was accompanied by images from her period of ill mental health and from her first day on the job, struck a chord with Twitter users and has attracted more than 150,000 likes, retweets and comments.

Chloe says she even considered suicide at her lowest point. "[Three] years ago today I was taken into a psychiatric ward for the [first] time," she wrote on Twitter. "I was lost, hopeless, consumed by the idea of ending my life."

But in time, her situation improved - and now she's taking the steps towards a career in nursing.

"Today I walk into a psychiatric ward as a student mental health nurse for my first day of placement," she said. "Things change, they don't stay hard forever x."

Reacting to the uplifting post, one commenter said: "Literally in the same position as you. [Four] years ago I was in hospital for taking an overdose and seeing no way out of my hell of a life. I'm now a student mental health nurse and I'm the happiest I've ever been."

And another wrote: "From someone who struggles daily with mental health issues and needs the help/support MH workers provide, a massive thank you for your decision to work with others who need that help. You will be an asset to all you work with and I wish you all the best."

If you're going through a tough period with your mental health or are feeling suicidal, you can contact your local GP, the charity Mind or the Samaritans for support.
