Firefighters have shared the adorable moment they used a Youtube video of a mother duck's calls to coax four lost ducklings out of a drain pipe.

The three firemen from South Metro Fire Rescue arrived in Littleton in Colorado, United States, after receiving a report of a number of ducklings trapped in a storm drain on Thursday, 20th June.

While four of the eight babies were easily rescued by hand, another four had walked down a pipe below the street and were too far away to hear their mother's calls.

With the whole incident captured on film, the sweet clip begins with the trio lifting the grate from the road.

While one firefighter held a torch at the entrance to the pipe, quick-thinking Michael Velasquez used his mobile phone to play a YouTube video of a mother duck calling for her babies to encourage them out.

Imitating that of their own mother, the noise prompted the four little chicks to run out of the pipe.

The team of firefighters quickly swooped in and lifted them into a cardboard box filled with water before taking them back to the adult duck in a nearby field.

Spokesman from South Metro Fire Rescue, Eric Hurst, said: "A woman driving by had noticed the mother duck frantically pacing and quacking nearby so she called the fire department for help.

"All eight ducklings were safely rescued from the drainpipe and placed in the middle of an open field nearby where they reunited with their mother."

Craving more animal cuteness? Earlier this year, the internet found a new obsession in the form of a flying squirrel unique to the Japanese island of Hokkaido. With a round body, big dark eyes and expressive little hands, it's the closest thing to Pikachu we've seen IRL.

All together now... ahhh!
