Breastfeeding Mum Told 'It's Her Own Fault' After Being Left Standing On Train

A breastfeeding mum was left shocked and upset, after she was made to nurse her child while standing on a train as 'no one offered their seat'.

When you're on public transport, the right thing to do is to give your seat up to anyone less able to stand. This includes the elderly, disabled people or pregnant woman, but it also includes mums who have their hands full and are unable to stand and see to their children at the same time.

However, blogger Kate Hitchens says she wasn't exposed to any kindness on her latest train journey when she had to breastfeed her six-month-old son while standing in a busy train carriage.

The 32-year-old from Essex said she felt 'uncomfortable and embarrassed' that she had to stand while feeding her son, and claims commuters noticed but didn't give up their seat.

Speaking to PRETTY52, Kate said: "I was breastfeeding, but that's not really the point. I'm being trolled saying I should have fed elsewhere, got a different train, why am I 'entitled', and part of this 'entitled' generation?

"Since when should women with children or men with children not be entitled?

"It doesn't matter how I was feeding, if i saw someone with a child, or even struggling with heavy bags I would offer them a seat."

Taking to Instagram, Kate wrote: "On my way home from London on a packed commuter train and this is what I faced.

"What has the world come to that a mother has to stand up on a moving train breast feeding a wriggling and writhing 6 month old, 20lb baby?! The point here isn't just that I found it difficult because I was nursing (although that was bloody difficult!), but that not one person offered a mother carrying a small child a seat for around half an hour, or 3 stops!"

Kate continued to say that although she could've asked for a seat, she felt silly and thought that she didn't have to ask.

The blogger also tried to reason that maybe other passengers didn't spot her but goes on to explain that people made eye contact, smiled and then looked away.

Kate did praise one lady who offered up her seat, but revealed another woman jumped in front and took it from her.

However, what was even worse than the events that unfolded on the train was that some social media users blamed Kate and told her it was her own fault.

One user wrote: "But you CHOSE to breed. No one else owes selfish self-entitled mothers anything. You CHOSE to open your legs and breed for your ego, you deal with the consequences, not anyone else."
