You Can Now Have Christmas Dinner And Carols At Downton Abbey

For Downton Abbey fans missing the annual festive specials, we have good news for you.

You can now have Christmas dinner at the actual Downton Abbey, which for those who don't already know is in Highclere Castle in Hampshire.

London-based travel company, Premium Tours is offering a 'Downton Abbey Christmas Experience' on Saturday 15th December, which involves an evening visit to the 5,000 acre estate with all the trimmings.

You'll be picked up in a coach from London at 4pm, before arriving to champagne and canapes before a tour of the reception rooms.

As part of the package, you'll then sit down for a delicious three-course dinner with wine, prepared in the castle's kitchens.

Visitors will also be treated to carols around the Christmas tree to round off an extra special evening, before returning to the capital at 12.30am.

The experience doesn't come cheap, costing an impressive £490 per person and you can book tickets through TripAdvisor.

Highclere Castle

If you do fancy taking the plunge and embracing your inner Lady Mary Crawley, then you can enjoy Lady Carnarvon charred salmon and avocado tian leaf salad and Melba toast for starter, or a delicious sounding Roasted vegetables terrine with micro cress salad and aioli sauce.

For main course, the options include Roasted turkey breaks, pigs in blankets, roasted fondant potato, Brussel sprouts with chestnuts and carrot Vichy, or if that doesn't tickle your fancy, Baked 'Goldcross' goat's cheese, pine kernels and red onion puree wrapped in filo pastry with watercress foam, extra virgin olive.

Just when you thought that was your fill, visitors can also enjoy Christmas pudding and Brandy cream sauce for dessert.

One bottle of red or white wine is included in the price, because what would a Christmas dinner be without a bottle of wine, right?

If you can't make the Christmas experience, there are other events taking place at Highclere too.

The Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, who live at the castle, will host their annual Christmas Fair on 5th and 6th December.

And if you like the finer things in life, a champagne and canapes evening in aid of the RAF100 Appeal will take place on 18th December.
