Grumpy cat, the feline which inspired scores of viral memes, has died, aged seven.
In a tweet titled 'some days are grumpier than others' shared on Friday morning, her owners confirmed the sad news in an emotional message.
They explained that Grumpy had developed complications from a recent UTI, which became too "tough for her to overcome", with the cat passing away peacefully at home on Tuesday this week.
"We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat," shared the Bundesen family on Twitter.

Explaining the passing of the beloved cat, they added: "Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome."
The statement continued: "She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.
"Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile around the world - even when times were tough."
It concluded: "Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere," and the post was signed off by Grumpy's family, Tabatha, Bryan and Chrystal.

The statement, which was also posted on to the cat's Instagram, was shared alongside an image of the feline and her iconic upturned smile, of which her name was coined from.
Grumpy Cat amassed 1.5 million Twitter followers and 2.4 million Instagram fans through her time in the public eye.
The cat first rose to prominence after a photograph of her was posted to Reddit back in September 2012.

Her social media channels charted Grumpy's daily life, and will no doubt be sorely missed by her followers.
