Trick or treaters may want to make sure their Halloween contains lots of layers, hats and scarves as a white Halloween could be on its way to the UK.

Despite a chilly week, the Met Office is forecasting an uncharacteristically warm weekend before temperatures dramatically drop next week in the build up to the spooky holiday.

Snow could fall in parts of the UK from as early as next Friday, but it's Brits in Scotland and the north of England who might want to take extra precautions when out trick or treating.

"There is quite a reasonable possibility of some snow for the high ground in the North," a Met Office spokesperson told The Sun.

"There's always a chance up in the hills of Scotland, the further north you go the more likely you are to get snow this time of year.

"Next week, it's getting colder towards the end of the week."

Any party goers out on the town will be pleased to hear a warm weekend is on the way, however the mercury fell as low as -2.5C in North Yorkshire last night and another chilly night tonight.

Tonight will be particularly cold for Brits in the South East where fog is expected to accumulate throughout night.

But, Saturday will be a much better day in terms of sunshine with southerly winds, clear skies and temperatures reaching as high as 16C for most of the UK.

That's an unusually high temperature for this time of year with the average temperature for this month usually coming out at a frostier 13C.

The warm weather will predominantly hit central England and Wales, while further North and West will see temperatures of around the mid-teens.

Temperatures will begin to drop again on Sunday as a cold front moves in along with cloudier conditions.
