Man Shocked By Most Disappointing Sandwich Ever On Flight

A man has revealed the disappointing filling in the trio of sandwiches he paid £5 for on a recent flight from Bali to Australia

Stale bread, limp vegetables and funky-looking chicken: nobody expects much from plane food. But a British man recently shared a photo of the saddest-looking sandwich we've ever seen which he was served up on a plane for the sum of AUS$9 (£5).

Food writer Nick Mosley, who lives in Brighton, had been travelling around Asia for a few weeks, sampling local delicacies before his flight.

He boarded the plane from Bali to Australia with Jetstar Airways when he forked out for the sandwich.

But when he bit into it and lifted the top slice of bread off one of the sandwiches he was disappointed. It contained a single, limp looking lettuce leaf , a smear of egg mayo mix and a scraping of margarine.

"I had a bit of a craving for a sandwich. Having eaten many sandwiches in my life, it wouldn't have crossed my mind to peel back the bread to check the filling," he explained to the Daily Mail. Sames.

"However, after the first mouthful of somewhat soggy bread and margarine, peel back I did.

"I paid for it so there is really is no excuse for serving inadequate products. It was a shocker - it made a petrol station sandwich look like a gastronomic feast."

He tweeted photos of the sad-looking sandwiches to Jetstar Airways explaining: "I must say @JetstarAirways have a cheek charging AUS$9 for sandwiches... without any fillings... Great for their bottom line but not so good for filling the tums of customers."

The packaging claimed the three sandwiches should have contained a delicious combination of 'egg with mayo and lettuce on white bread' (which it did in a tiny quantity), a 'cream cheese with roasted red pepper on wholemeal bread' and 'tuna mayo with onion relish on white bread'.

He shared another photo of a sandwich, which we presume was the cream cheese and pepper one - but only because it doesn't look like tuna.

Nick added: "I think airline food, whether it's included in the ticket price or available to buy on the plane, has to be decent and a fair reflection of the price.

"There are always going to be people on flights who are on longer journeys with connecting flights, so poor food has a direct impact on well-being as well as the wallet."

A spokesperson for Jetstar Airways said of sandwich-gate: "We apologise for the unusual lack of filling in Mr Mosley's sandwich, and appreciate it did not meet expectations.

"It is unusual. We've passed the feedback onto our caterer."
