The Queen paid tribute to her son Prince Charles on his 70th Birthday, and revealed her sweet nickname for the royal.

Speaking to Prince Charles' closest friends and family at a dinner party, the Queen called her son an 'original Duchy'.

Although it sounds a bit strange, it is apparently a humorous reference to the organic food line Charles set up in 1990.

Prince Charles marked his milestone on Tuesday with William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan attending his party, alongside Prince Philip, newlyweds Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, plus plenty of other close royal family members and friends.

At the beginning of the black-tie event, the Queen took centre stage and raised a glass to her son along with a sweet speech where she spoke about being the mum of a 70-year-old.

The Queen said: "It is a privilege for any mother to be able to propose a toast to her son on his 70th birthday.

"It means that you have lived long enough to see your child grow up. It is rather like -to use an analogy I am certain will find favour - planting a tree and being able to watch it grow.

"My mother saw me turn 70, of course. And she was heard to observe that 70 is exactly the age when the number of candles on your cake finally exceeds the amount of breath you have to blow them out.

"Over his 70 years, Philip and I have seen Charles become a champion of conservation and the arts, a great charitable leader - a dedicated and respected heir to the throne to stand comparison with any in history - and a wonderful father.

"Most of all, sustained by his wife Camilla, he is his own man, passionate and creative. So this toast is to wish a happy birthday to my son, in every respect a duchy original. To you Charles. To the Prince of Wales."

Prince Charles was reportedly 'touched' by his mother's speech as the royals are known for their limited displays of affection.

To mark the royal's 70th Birthday, Clarence House released two new pictures of Charles with his wife, children, their wives and his grandchildren.

It is also the first official photo of the family together since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding earlier this year but there was no sign of the former Suits actress' baby bump.

The picture also gave us a little glimpse at Prince Louis who hasn't been seen much in public since his arrived in April this year.

Buckingham Palace also shared 70 facts for Charles' 70th this week, including his favourite tea - Darjeeling with milk and honey and revealed he never eats lunch.
