Kensington Palace Releases Statement After Meghan Markle's Dad 'Pulls Out Of Wedding'
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding is just a few days away, but it has been reported that the bride-to-be's father, Thomas Markle, has 'pulled out' of the nuptials...
On Monday, Thomas supposedly told TMZ that he'd suffered a heart attack just a few days earlier, and was no longer attending his daughter's wedding as he didn't want to 'embarrass' Meghan following 'staged' paparazzi pictures.
And now, Kensington Palace has issued an official statement following these reports, asking for 'understanding' and 'respect' from the public.
A spokesman for the palace said: "This is a deeply personal moment for Ms Markle in the days before her wedding."
He added: "She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr Markle in this difficult situation."
If 73-year-old Thomas does not attend Harry and Meghan's wedding, it is currently unclear who will walk the bride down the aisle on Saturday.
This comes after reports in the Mail on Sunday suggested that Thomas had 'staged' a series of press pictures, showing him selecting a suit for the big day, as well as reading news stories about his daughter.
Meghan's half sister, Samantha Markle, told Good Morning Britain that Thomas 'meant no harm' with the paparazzi images following the huge backlash, adding that she hopes he will still attend the wedding.
She also tweeted that it was nothing to do with money, seemingly placing the 'blame' on herself.
Samantha wrote: "The media was unfairly making him look bad so I suggested he do positive photos for his benefit and the benefit of the royal family."
The former television lighting director was set to meet the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William and Kate ahead of the wedding on Saturday.
It is thought that Thomas checked himself out of hospital early following the heart attack.
