Katie Piper's Acid Attacker Could Be Released In A Couple Of Weeks
Katie Piper's acid attacker, Stefan Sylvestre, could be released in just a matter of weeks.
As the 34-year-old prepares to make her Strictly Come Dancing debut later this year, the parole board is deliberating over whether Sylvestre still poses a threat to society.
If the parole hearing decide that's no longer the case, the 30-year-old will be freed.
Sylvestre was put behind bars in 2009 for throwing sulfuric acid over Katie's face and body on a high street in London. He was handed a life sentence by a judge, being told that he must serve a minimum of six years in prison.
He was first eligible for parole in 2015, but was deemed unfit for release and his application was blocked.
Sylvestre was acting on the orders of Katie's ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch, 39, who is locked up in prison for a minimum of 16 years for the acid attack.
Mum-of-two Katie was left with permanent scarring across her face and body, and was also blinded in one eye following the vicious attack in March 2008. She has since undergone hundreds of operations.
A parole board spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a panel of the parole board has considered the parole review for Stefan Sylvestre and expect to receive the panel's decision in the coming weeks.
"We are unable to comment further on the individual details of this case."
Katie has spoken candidly about her fears of her attackers' release in the past.
Writing in her autobiography in 2014, Katie explained: "I wish I'd been burned in a house fire or a car accident.
"At least a fire wouldn't come after me again, at least a fire wouldn't have a score to settle."
Reflecting on Slyvestre and Lynch's sentences in the book, she added: "I'm the one with the life sentence. Not him! The two of them had taken so much from me, and now this man's punishment might soon be over.
"He can change his identity, change his name, get a new job, a partner, move on, but I can't. I can't pretend it didn't happen because it's all over my face."
