If you cast your mind back to 2012's series of The X Factor there's absolutely no denying the fact that then 21-year-old Lucy Spraggan was absolutely one of the stand out artists. She was one of the few X Factor contestants who chose to audition for the show with an original song, and managed to bring tears to the audience's eyes a few weeks later with another one of her tunes.

You can watch that incredible moment here:

Of course, it didn't quite work out for Lucy on The X Factor and she was forced to quit the show after suffering from a persistent illness.

However, since leaving ITV's infamous talent show, Lucy has gone on to achieve quite a bit of success as an independent artist and even got married to her long-time girlfriend Georgina Gordon. Not bad, eh?

However, on Friday night, 25-year-old Lucy revealed that she had been viciously assaulted after a gig in Brighton and it looks absolutely terrifying. Lucy shared a picture showing her face covered in cuts and bruises, holding a piece of her hair that had been ripped out by her attackers.

Sussex police had this to say about the attack in a statement released to Metro:

Shortly before 3am on Friday March 17 police were called to middle street in Brighton following reports that a 25-year-old woman had been attacked in a karaoke bar.

A 26-year-old woman and a 27-year-old woman, both from London, have been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and both have been bailed to Saturday April 15 pending further enquiries.

And Lucy's manager Ben Price, speaking to BBC Newsbeat, added:

In the early hours of Friday morning Lucy was attacked outside a bar on Middle Street, Brighton. She suffered cuts and bruises to the face and other injuries including bite lacerations.
Lucy is recovering well and as planned will be fulfilling her European tour which starts in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Lucy has thanked Sussex Police for their help in the matter and their quick work in bringing two women into custody.

The attack is absolutely vile and we hope that the women who assaulted Lucy are swiftly brought to justice. What must motivate someone to attack another human being on the street for no reason? Disgraceful.

Thankfully Lucy is making a full recovery and seems to be doing fine.
