A stock image of a brown egg overtook Kylie Jenner's record on Sunday becoming the most liked Instagram photo ever. Proof if it were needed that Instagram dominance is like walking on eggshells (sorry).

It was first posted on Friday, January 4th by an account called - wait for it - @world_record_egg.

It's the account's only post - but its popularity has proven pretty solid - with the caption: "Let's set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram.

"Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this."

The account's bio was also updated on Sunday to read: "Official world record holders of the most liked picture on Instagram. Now where's our blue tick?"

Kylie Jenner previously held the record for the most liked photo on Instagram before the egg stole the crown.

Her post was a pic of her then newborn baby daughter captioned simply: "stormi webster [sic]". At the time the egg took over, her photo had just over 18 million likes.

Jenner's post dethroned Beyoncé's floral twin pregnancy announcement as the previously most liked Instagram post.

Kylie has already weighed in on her crushing Instagram defeat with a video of her cracking an egg on the hot ground in an attempt to fry it, captioned: "Take that little egg." Brutal.

The person responsible for the egg-cellent Instagram takeover plan remains unidentified.

When Buzzfeed attempted to contact them, the reporter was informed that it's the brainchild of "Henrietta", a chicken from the British countryside, who believes the egg succeeded because "the power of the egg is strong." It really is.
