The old dating game can be pretty tricky, particularly when it comes to getting to know people after meeting them on apps like Tinder.

However, one woman managed to overcome to awkwardness that comes with online dating after going on the perfect date with one of her Tinder matches.

Alita Brydon got home in the early hours after an amazing night with her date and lay in bed thinking about how she may have just met the one. It sounds like a dream come true, right?

The pair had been swapping "personal, intimate, yet so mundane" messages for a while, but hadn't had the chance to meet because of the two hour distance between them.

They shared step-by-steps of meals they had created and talked about films they both loved, just like any other couple who are getting to know each other.

Finally, Alita and her date found a time they were both free to meet, and arranged to go for a drink.

Writing on MamaMia, Alita explained: "I saw him confidently approaching me, striding past the Asian grocer, the dingy Chinese takeout.

"Without saying a word he laid his lips on me, laid his palm on my lower back and kissed me. It was happening. Everything was coming together."

The next day, Alita waited to receive a message from a date but instead she woke up to a very, very different message.

It read: "Stay away from my boyfriend."

Obviously shocked and confused, Alita couldn't believe she had somehow become the other woman.

She replied to the mystery woman saying she didn't know who she was but the mystery woman explained everything.

It turned out that the woman had met Alita's date after Alita matched him on Tinder and had been dating since even going as far as to planning to move in together.

Alita explained: "I would never pursue a man who had a partner. And I would do anything to undo hurt caused to the woman I upset. But I did not know. So, all I can take from the experience is a piercing and cold lesson. Be careful who you trust."
