If you're attending a wedding, be it of a friend or a family member, there are some pretty basic etiquette roles to uphold.
A key one is that you don't, under any circumstances, upstage the bride - that includes not wearing white, but in some cases, it could also cover just not wearing anything too fancy.
So, if your wedding day look could make your pal feel self conscious or like less than the centre of attention, you might want to rethink it.
Keen not to make this faux pas, a woman has posted on Mumsnet seeking advice as she's worried that a dress she's bought to wear to a friend's wedding is too flashy for someone else's big day.

She says that she's worried other guests will think she's "trying to steal the limelight" if she shows up in what she's bought - the dress is a simple navy and floral asymmetrical dress from Chi Chi.
She wrote: "I've asked a couple of people now, it's about an inch of the floor at the back if I'm wearing flats which I intend to later on or with heels, 4/5 inches.
"Everyone I've asked (6 people) says it's fine and I should definitely wear it but if I were the bride, I feel as though I'd think whoever wore it was trying to steal the limelight (although, you can never truly upstage a bride)."

While people don't believe that the dress will upstage anyone necessarily, they had some pretty snarky comments about the dress generally.
One rude person wrote: "I think it's awful and unflattering and would look terrible with flats on. Don't do it send it back. I promise I'm not being rude or mean I am giving my genuine answer."
While another said: "I suppose it depends what the bride looks like, but I'd be pretty gutted if that could upstage me! Not something I'd chose to wear myself."
Others were more balanced and called it a "standard" wedding guest dress, which, to be fair, it is.
Yikes!
