A pregnant woman burst into tears after learning her baby's gender through recordings of her late father's voice.

Jennifer Jones-Prothro, from California, is expecting her ninth child in December with husband James who wanted to make sure his wife's gender reveal was extra special.

During the reveal James handed heavily pregnant Jennifer a speaker before pressing play, with the message starting with his voice telling Jennifer that he needed a little help with the announcement.

Using recordings of old voicemails left by Jennifer's father, Charles, who died last year after a long battle with cancer, James stitched them together to give her the amazing news.

After hearing her father's voice the mum-to-be broke down in tears and covered her mouth in shock as her dad told her she was expecting a baby girl.

The message said: "Hello Jenny, this is your father.

"I want to let you know that it is a girl.

"It's a girl, I love ya, bye bye."

After the reveal husband James cuddled Jennifer and told her how much he loved her,

The couple always kept the gender of their children a secret from Charlie as they said he always liked to have a surprise.

At first Jennifer wanted to keep the gender of her baby a surprise in honour of her dad but when friends wanted to start planning baby showers she decided to find out.

The innovative reveal came after Jennifer challenged James to find a creative way of breaking their baby news.

Speaking to CNN Jennifer said: "My dad always wanted to be surprised by it.

"There are not many surprised left in the world these days."

Husband James added: "He was her everything. My wife told me that if I revealed the sex of our baby it had to be creative.

"I could think of no better way than to hear it from her Dad! RIP Mr J and thanks for your help."

They haven't come up with a name for their daughter yet, but when they do, they plan to keep it a secret the couple have said that way they will still have a little surprise.
