Ted Bundy has been hot topic of a lot of conversations recently, thanks to Netflix's docuseries Ted Bundy Tapes and the upcoming movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, starring Zac Efron.

But, it's important to remember that Bundy was a real life serial killer who savagely murdered more than 30 women in the 1970s, and each of his victims has their own stories.

Bundy's death toll would've been even higher had he been successful in all of his brutal attacks, but fortunately, a small few of the women he attacked survived.

One of them was Kathy Kleiner Rubin, and she has recently told her harrowing story.

Kathy was attacked by Bundy on 15th January in 1978 while she slept in her dorm room at Florida State University.

According to the candid interview in Rolling Stone, Bundy visited the room of Kathy's roommate Margaret Bowman, who he strangled with a pair of pantyhoes, before raping and strangling another woman across the hall called Lisa Levy. He then entered Kathy's room, where he tripped over a trunk.

In her own words, Kathy explained: "I remember the noise of the trip and something falling off the trunk, and that woke me up. The room was dark, and I didn't have my glasses on, but I remember seeing a black mass. I couldn't even see that it was a person. I saw the club, saw him lift it over his head, and slam it on me."

Bundy hit Kathy while attacking her roommate Karen Chandler at the same time, and the only reason Bundy didn't take it further was because he was scared off by a car light flooding the room.

Kathy was found by a sorority sister, "sitting crossed-legged on her bed, blood pouring from her mouth, rocking back and forth and moaning," according to the book The Only Living Witness: The True Story of Serial Sex Killer Ted Bundy.

Understandably it took Kathy months to physically recover from the attack, and while it no doubt still haunts her, she went on to get married and was forced to face the serial killer during the trial which found him guilty and sentenced him to death.

"He was just staring me down. I wasn't scared, I wasn't angry, so much as a...throwing-up feeling. It was so bad. It was disgust," she told Rolling Stone.

Now, Kathy is re-married and lives in New Orleans with her family, but of course the attack has had a huge impact on her life.

Last year, Kathy joined Twitter and introduced herself with this message: "Survivor of Ted Bundy attack at FSU in the Chi Omega Sorority in 1978. I want to tell my story and have someone calibrate with me for a possible publication. You can watch me on an upcoming CNN documentary."

When asked how she feels about the controversial film starring Zac Efron, Kathy told TMZ: "I don't have a problem with people looking at it, and as long as they understand that what they're watching wasn't a normal person. I believe that in order to show him exactly the way he was, it's not really glorifying him, but it's showing him, and when they do say positive and wonderful things about him...That's what they saw, that's what Bundy wanted you to see."

While there's no official release date for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, you can stream Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes on Netflix now.
