The owner of the lights, Dan Hubbert, asked his Facebook friends if he should "ring the old bill or let her go free?"

Not everyone wants to get into the festive spirit, but one elderly woman risked electrocuting herself by cutting her neighbours Christmas lights in true Grinch-style.

Dan Hubbert from Hull was inspecting his home's CCTV when he discovered the older woman walk onto his property and cut the wire of the flashing lights wrapped around the tree in his garden.

Sharing the footage, Dan wrote on social media: "So it turns out some old gal doesn't like my Christmas lights... What should I do? Ring the old bill or let her go free?"

While undecided about what to do next, one thing is for sure, he had to post it on Facebook for the world's amusement.

Funnily enough, we're not sure Dan (and his Facebook friends) would've had the same reaction if it'd been a teenage thug cutting down his lights, but there is something quite amusing about the woman shuffling over in the dead of the night to commit the act of vandalism.

In the video, the woman looks slightly unsteady on her feet when she climbs up to the tree and proceeds to cut one of the wires, letting it drop to the ground.

Since posting the clip, many people have encouraged him to report his neighbour to the police.

He told the Hull Daily Mail: "Everyone wants me to ring the police on her. She should pay for them. If it was youths, I would've been straight on the blower to the police but she's old.

"It could have caused an electrical fault or even electrocuted herself. You can't start going across the road and chopping down lights. I think I will call 101 and get them to go and have a word."

Despite having to fork out another £20 to buy another set of lights for his tree, dad-of-two Dan admits he isn't bothered because he finds the whole thing so amusing.

He said: "I'm not that bothered really. I'm trying to find the funny side. (My children) just think it's funny as well. It is quite funny to see her toddle along and cut them."

The identity of the vandal hasn't been confirmed, but Dan added in if his neighbour had spoken to him prior to the incident, explaining the lights were causing issues for her, he would've taken them down or turned them off at night, which sounds pretty fair to us.
