An 86-year-old man from Congleton, Cheshire, has been inundated with support from his community after his wreath-selling business went viral.

Reg has been hand-making and selling Christmas wreaths in his local area for a number of years, but was left devastated when some of his masterpieces were stolen.

Sharing the heartbreaking news on Facebook, Emma Louise Jones urged the people of Cheshire to show support for Reg's business.

"This is 86-year-old Reg from Congleton," she wrote. "He's been making and selling wreaths from his house for years. This year he's had some stolen and he's very upset about it. I visited Reg today, gave him a cuddle and bought a wreath. They're beautiful. But more importantly, he is beautiful.

"He cried to me when he tried to talk about having the wreaths stolen, because all he wants to do is brighten up Christmas for the locals. Please, if you're passing through Congleton, stop at Reg's house and buy a wreath. Let him know he's valued and make sure he keeps his festive cheer."

The post has since been shared more than 11,000 times and has been flooded with comments from the people of Cheshire, desperate to get their hands on one of Reg's wreaths.

Many of the comments suggest Reg has sold out of his wreaths (and we're hardly surprised, given the sheer demand for them at the moment), so a JustGiving page has been set up to make sure he has 'the best Christmas ever' as a thank you for spreading cheer throughout his local community.

The crowdfunding page has already surpassed its original target of £100 by a very impressive 743 per cent, raising an incredible £743 at the time of writing.

After the overwhelming response, Emma added: "Thank you so much for your amazing response to Reg. I'm sure he will be over the moon with the love he's deservedly being shown. I just wanted to let you know that because he makes the wreaths himself, he probably won't have enough for everyone.

"But I'm sure he'd love for us all to give him something back, like a Christmas card or a cuddle. I'm going through my messages now, so I'll reply to them all. Merry Christmas, you beautiful people."

It's safe to say there's plenty of Christmas cheer in Cheshire this year.
