If there's one thing in life we know to be true, it's that a dog really is man's (and women's) best friend.

The fact has been highlighted with the completely addictive 'What The Fluff' challenge that has taken over the internet over the last month.

Now, a video has gone viral featuring the return of a dog's army dad.

In the heartwarming clip, the dog is completely unamused with its owner's attempt at the viral challenge - but the adorable doggo is completely beside himself when the big reveal goes down.

The four-legged friend goes berserk when he comes face-to-face with his owner, and it's enough to leave anyone sobbing.

The emotional reunion was filmed in Livermore, California, by Lisa Lord, who said: "My son, Private 1st Class Kevin arrived home after nine months in Fort Bragg where he had been training for the Special Forces Qualification course.

"His leave was granted to come home to see family and friends before he would return back to his base to continue the 18-month long intense training hoping to become a Green Beret serving our country."

Lisa and her younger son, Jacob, thought it would be fun to do the challenge with a bit of an emotional twist.

She added: "While we were all very excited and emotional to have him at home, no one was happier than our four-year-old Golden Retriever, Zephyr, and none of us anticipated Z's reaction."

The challenge, which has proved brilliant entertainment for doggo-lovers across the internet, sees people using a towel or sheet and a doorway to 'vanish' right before their pooch's eyes.

Basically, it's a version of peek-a-boo you'd play with babies and toddlers - expect with your furbabies.

While a lot of pooches have been left completely unphased by their owner's antics, others have been left completely bamboozled by the trick.

Keep 'em coming, dog owners.
