With so many cameras constantly around and with so many people trying to post photos of us, it's no wonder we feel pressure to look perfect all the time.

Many new mums even feel pressure to look their best minutes after going through the hard work of pushing out an actual, human child - with a new survey finding that 68 per cent of British women put on makeup the same day as giving birth, with the average woman taking two and a half hours fresh-faced before putting a full face of makeup on.

Kim Kardashian made headlines when she gave birth to North with a full glam squad on deck to ensure she looked her best, even refusing to have black nails when her new baby saw her for the first time.

And the Duchess of Cambridge raised eyebrows last year when she emerged from the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital in London looking immaculate, just hours after giving birth to Prince Louis.

Young people are reportedly most often putting on makeup right after giving birth, with 77 per cent of 18-32 year olds doing so.

Additionally, Cosmetify found that 64 per cent of women aged between 18-31 get beauty treatments done before going into labour. The most popular of these were hair removal (65 per cent), manicures (57 per cent), pedicures (43 per cent), spray tan (37 per cent), blow-dries and haircuts (32 per cent).

It makes sense - with your family, friends and nurses staring at you for hours, you could be forgiven for wanting to look your best.

Reportedly, 79 per cent of women aged 18-31 take their makeup bag into the hospital with them, with the quickest time between giving birth and popping on makeup being reported at 20 minutes.

The women surveyed were asked why they chose to do this - 31 per cent said they "wanted to look decent in photos", 26 per cent said they wanted to "look presentable for visitors" and 22 per cent said they "I didn't want to look ill/drained/tired".

Of all the women surveyed, just 35 per cent said they felt comfortable allowing a photo to be taken with them and their newborn without makeup on.

Sadly, none of the women said that they wanted to put makeup on after birth - and more than half felt that there is pressure to look good after giving birth, with social media, parents, and their friends being the places they felt pressure from.

Commenting on the findings, Cosmetify's Isa Lavahun said: "It's sad to hear that so many new mothers feel the need to wear makeup and look presentable for photos and visitors. This seems like unnecessary pressure after what they've been through."

While it's natural to feel pressure to look good, if you're going through the stress of having an actual baby, there's no need to put yourself through going to get a full wax the day before, too. Put yourself first and leave your makeup bag at home - Instagram will just have to wait
