Britain's Top 100 Favourite Dog Breeds Have Been Revealed

The UK's top 100 favourite dog breeds have been revealed on ITV and last year's favourite has been knocked of the top spot and replaced.

Britain's top 100 favourite dog breeds of 2019 have finally been revealed and last year's winner the Labrador has been knocked off the top spot by a surprising breed.

The list was revealed last night by Sara Cox and Ben Fogle on ITV's show Britain's Favourite Dogs and there were 217 recognised breeds to choose from.

To find Britain's favourite dog 10,000 members of the public were surveyed to find that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is the UK's top dog.

Last year's winner, the Labrador, has moved down to the third spot, and both the Jack Russell and King Charles Spaniel have dropped out of the top ten.

Here is a countdown of the top 10 breeds:

10. Mixed breeds

A mixed breed is a dog that does not belong to one officially recognised breed, they are often not the result of intentional breeding.

9. Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are a member of the 'Gundog' group they were originally trained to find live game and retrieve game that had been shot and wounded.

According to the PDSA Golden Retrievers are popular pets that fit well into family life. They are also described as a gentle breed who need grooming two or three times a week to keep their fur shiny.

8. German Shepherd

The German Shepherd originated in Germany which should be quite obvious and were originally working dogs.

As well as being good working dogs the breed is also highly intelligent, extremely loyal to their families and are good with children of all ages.

7. Border Collie

The Border Collie is also known as Scottish Sheepdog, Collie and can live for up to 10 to 14 years.

According to Pets 4 Homes they are also the 'most intelligent breed on the planet' and are very easy to train so it's no wonder they ranked so high.

Coming in a sixth in the list are Boxer dogs which originate from Germany. The medium sized dogs have short hair and are extremely cute.

The breed are extremely protective of their belongings and love being with people and hate being on their own.

5. Cocker Spaniel

The Cocker Spaniel is always eager to please their owners. (

The Cocker Spaniel is a breed of gun dog and is an active, good-natured and sporting dog.

Cocker Spaniels are well known for their gentle and loving natures. They are always full of life and are always wanting to please their owners- so cute!

4. Springer Spaniel

The Springer Spaniel is even-tempered and calm. (

The fluffy ears on a Springer Spaniel definitely helps to make the breed one of the cutest in the list and are renowned for having a cheerful nature.

They are extremely loyal and are often described as the perfect companion for older people.

3. Labrador

Last year's winning breed has fell three places this year but has still stuck to the top 10. The Labrador breed was historically as a fisherman's helper: hauling nets, fetching ropes, and retrieving fish.

The breed is reliable and trustworthy and make amazing family pets which is probably why they are in the top three.

2. Cockapoo

The Cockapoo is a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle. (

The Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle and arguably the cutest breed on the whole list.

They are easily recognised by their curly fur and are remain puppy like even when they get older but easy to train.

1. Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The Staffy is the UK's favourite breed. (

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has been voted the UK's favourite breed for 2019.

Good with children of all ages, the breed is high-spirited and energetic so loves playing interactive games with its owner.
