Supermarket Morrisons knows that Christmas day can be a busy day. So to save you the faff of cooking, chewing your way through three courses and washing-up afterwards they've combined your starter, main and dessert in a handy Christmas Dinner Pasty.

But is it convenient or killing Christmas joy?

Crimped pastry is filled by hand and made in Cornwall and the recipe apparently took chefs three months to perfect. So what exactly is inside it?

For the starter, you'll find a classic, tasty combination of Ardennes pâté, sweet apple chutney and Melba toast.

Eat a third of the way through the pasty and you'll arrive at the main course: British turkey with sage and onion stuffing, potatoes, pigs in blankets, cranberries and a creamy sauce.

And for the final third comes dessert: a rich Christmas pudding with brandy sauce.

Don't want to accidentally begin with afters? We don't blame you. The crafty pasty even comes with an arrow on top that tells you which end to start at.

The Christmas Dinner Pasty was apparently inspired by the traditional Cornish variety, which surprisingly did combine savoury and sweet parts. They were carried underground by tin miners and contained meat and vegetables in one end and jam or fruit in the other.

Pastries buyer Philippa Shaw enthused: "This is the perfect grab and go Christmas dinner... and without any of the washing up."

Reviews so far have said the various fillings tend to slide around inside the pastry casing - meaning the last third is Christmas pudding with "remnants of onion stuffing and the odd bit of bacon".

Give it a try. The Christmas Dinner Pasty is available to buy from Monday, December 10th 2018 until Christmas day 2018 for £2.50 at Morrisons Pie Shop counters.
