Giovanna Fletcher has revealed in a candid social media post that she has been struggling with her mental health ever since the birth of her son Max in August.

The author spoke on her Instagram and Twitter about how she has 'not been feeling herself' and how she struggles to get out of bed and get dressed some days.

Giovanna welcomed Max six weeks ago, with her husband Tom Fletcher, and says that since giving birth she sometimes finds herself crying and unable to stop.

She posted her message as a reflection on World Mental Health Day, telling her followers: "I've not been feeling myself the last couple of weeks, which is pretty tough to admit.

"I've tried to say it out loud a couple of times and then totally dismissed it and brushed it under the carpet. I have found myself saying, 'I'm not feeling myself, but it's fine. I'm fine.'

"Hmm... I'm fine but sometimes I don't want to get out of bed in the morning. I don't want to get dressed. I don't want to see people.

"I don't want to do anything. I'm fine but I've been crying for no reason and occasionally can't seem to stop.

"I'm not feeling myself right now but I've just had a baby and my hormones are all over the shop and playing havoc with my emotions.

"I'm not feeling myself right now but I've just welcomed my third baby into the world and am so incredibly lucky.

"I'm not feeling myself right now but people are asking things of me and I don't want to let them down. I want to deliver and be the productive, proactive and positive person I usually am."

Giovanna continued to say how thankful she is to have a support system behind her who are making sure she is being kind to herself.

The mum-of-three also encouraged her followers to talk about their mental health struggles and be open with people when they ask how you are.

Giovanna has been quite open about her mental health, and has spoken in the past about the impact a miscarriage had on her and Tom.

Speaking for Heat World's 'Where's Your Head At?' campaign, which has launched a petition to have trained mental health first-aiders available at all workplaces and colleges, Giovanna said speaking to other women who have also had a miscarriage helped her to deal with what she went through.

She said: "It was my first taste of motherhood and I think it affected me in a really bad way. But again, talking about it is the best, best thing because you hear how other people have felt and you realise you're not on your own."
