Zac Efron's Ted Bundy Film 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile' Is Coming To Netflix

Zac Efron's Ted Bundy film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is officially coming to Netflix.

Ever since its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, the movie has faced criticism from some people who think casting a 'heartthrob' like Zac Efron romanticises the serial killer. Others argued it perfectly portrays Bundy who was described as 'charming' and 'good looking' by many.

Either way, the film, which was debuted just days after Netflix's docuseries Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes release, was always going to be well sought after.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix bought the film for a whopping $9 million after a bidding war with STX and Lionsgate, but there is some bad news for those in favour of the film.

Just because the film is coming to Netflix as opposed to being a cinema release, doesn't mean we'll be able to get viewing right away.

The online streaming giant is reportedly waiting for an Autumn release to give Efron and the film a better chance the next year's awards season.

It makes perfect sense for the film to land on Netflix as it's directed by Joe Berlinger, who also produced The Ted Bundy Tapes.

The release of both the docuseries and the film coincided with the 30th anniversary of Bundy's execution after he was found guilty of the rape and murder of several young women.

In the days leading up to his execution however, Bundy admitted to the murder of upwards of 30 young women and girls.

Speaking of his role, Efron told Variety: "This movie was really about a human being, somebody that perhaps I would have been friends with. And a love story from a very unique perspective.

"I've never seen that before. It's intriguing to me. I think it's more psychological and even more kind of a mindf*ck."
