A guest on This Morning has caused controversy by claiming all sports days should be banned in schools as they fill the majority of people with "dread".

Lottie Daley, who often divides viewers of the ITV chat show with her opinions on parenting, was discussing the topic off the back of Pentrebane school in Cardiff banning parents from all future sports days over 'bad behaviour'.

But Lottie went one step further by telling hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, fellow guest Olympic sprinter Iwan Thomas and viewers at home that there should be a total ban on sports days all together for both parents, teachers and children.

The mum-of-three declared: "We should just ban sports day altogether. It absolutely fills the majority of people I know with dread."

However, Iwan countered her argument by explaining that losing was a "lesson you're going to need to learn".

"You might have won at a spelling bee, I probably wouldn't, whereas if I hadn't have done sports day I wouldn't have progressed to be the athlete I became," he added.

"I think for those children that perhaps don't shine in the classroom, give them their chance on the sports field to shine."

Viewers flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on whether sports days should be banned entirely following the debate on Tuesday's This Morning.

"@thismorning you can't ban sports day. How will we breed our future champions of the world if they are not pushed to compete? Absolutely ban the bad parents but sports day is amazing and MOST kids really look forward to it," said one.

While another echoed: "I didn't like sports day but that's coz I'm not a sporty person but don't ban it [sic]."

"Ban sports day are you kidding?? The one day of sports that I actually enjoyed especially when it was sunny!! And if parents want to get involved why not? It's a bit of fun at the end of the day!!" tweeted somebody else.

While hardly any viewers agreed with Lottie, some felt sports days should be optional for kids who aren't sporty or don't like competition.

"We should allow Sports Day, but we should not force all children to compete. Having children who are both good and not so interested in Sports - I see both sides of the argument. Give children the choice as to whether to compete or not," shared one.

And another said: "I absolutely dreaded sports day every year, don't think it should be banned but think it should be optional."
