Earlier this week The Only Way Is Essex returned to our screens, and boy was it a good episode. Not only did we see Pete and Megan back together (finally), but we were also treated to Gatsby being as cringe as ever with two new girls - Maddie and Ruby.

Bless his cotton socks, he does try.

But aside from Liam's awkward attempt at flirting with the duo, fans couldn't help but notice a striking similarity between Maddie and one of TOWIE's most iconic cast members, Lauren Goodger.

Just to put that into context for you, here's a photo of Maddie (she's the one on the right)...

And here's Lauren...

Spooky, right?

During scenes in which Maddie and pal Ruby were 'inducted' into the girl squad with a classy game of gold Prosecco Pong, viewers of the show couldn't contain their shock over the lash technician newbie's similarity to Lozza, and took to Twitter to shout about it.

"Wow, has Lauren Goodger got a twin as I thought she was on TOWIE for a second and realised it was Maddie!" said one social media user.

As another added: "I legit thought Maddie was Lauren Goodger #TOWIE."

"Scary how much Maddie looks like Lauren Goodger!" exclaimed a third.

With a fourth chiming in: "Omg I thought that that was @LaurenGoodger back in #towie #gutted."

But it doesn't look like Lauren will be making a return to the show any time soon, as she is currently dealing with her own life stuff, having just announced her break-up with jailbird boyfriend Joey Morrison.

Revealing the news in a candid Instagram video, Mark Wright's former flame appeared surprisingly calm as she explained the reasons behind their split.

Let's just hope she won't end up pushing him into a swimming pool like she did poor Mark. Although, if she does, we'll be there watching.
