We love a rom-com. But when it comes to classics like Bridget Jones's Diary and Love Actually - you have to admit they feel a little outdated and, dare we say it, problematic. Sorry to kill your buzz. Yes they're fun but they also perpetuate toxic stereotypes about gender roles in relationships. Enter the next-gen of rom-coms to give you all the feels minus the feeling that guys are running the show. Namely: Someone Great.

Centring on female friendship, as well as overcoming romantic heartbreak, the upcoming Netflix film stars Gina Rodriguez as Jenny (you might recognise her from Jane the Virgin), an aspiring music journalist living in New York City who has just landed her dream job at a magazine in San Francisco.

The only problem is that her boyfriend of nine years (played by Lakeith Stanfield), isn't prepared to follow her dreams or her or to go long distance - so he breaks up with her.

But just like we saw Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda do for Carrie back in the nineties and noughties (minus the crippling, underlying dependence on men), her friends Erin (played by DeWanda Wise) and Blair (played by Brittany Snow) decide to take Jenny on an epic final NY adventure.

"I leave in a week, and then, I turn 30, and then I die probably," Jenny says in the newly-released trailer. "I need one last epic day with my girls."

Cue obligatory tequila shots, kitchen dance parties to Lizzo and and the Mother of all pep-talks from everybody's favourite alt life coach, Rupaul.

Gina told Elle: "It's a really cute f*cking movie and we're so proud of it. We worked so hard on it. It has a female director, female leads, female VP-pretty bad ass. I'm pumped."

Writer-director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson also tweeted about the film's feminist message saying: "I always wanted to see a romantic comedy where a woman chooses herself. So I made one."

Watch on Netflix from Good Friday, April 19th.
