There Could Be Three More Seasons Of Bodyguard Following Finale

The Bodyguard finale left things on such a cliffhanger that there could be another three series coming just to tie up all the loose ends, according to creator Jed Mercurio.

In fact, we could see a lot more of David Budd, thanks to the first series smash ratings, with Jed thinking Bodyguard could follow in the footsteps of his other hugely popular police drama, Line Of Duty, which has already had four successful series.

"We have been very fortunate with the success of series one," Jed told The Sun.

"It's probably fair to say we would probably approach any thoughts of a second series with the idea that it would create an opportunity for a third or fourth.

"To adopt a sporting phrase, we kind of decided to leave everything on the field for series one.

"If the ratings hadn't been quite so high, then possibly everybody involved including the BBC would have said 'Well that was a nice little series but we're just going to leave it at that and there won't be any more.'

"So you are hostage to fortune in that sense. And we do feel very privileged and fortunate that there's been such a response that it gives us that opportunity to at least think about doing more."

The series finale of Bodyguard left viewers wondering whether Vicky and David got back together and what actually happened to the masterminds CSI Lorraine Craddock, Luke Aitken and Julia Montague's former aide, Chanel Dyson.

Unfortunately, fans of the hit series will have to wait until the next series of Line Of Duty is finished which is currently being filmed in Belfast, meaning it'll be mid-2019 before any more work is underway.

Jed continued: "We're going to be shooting right up until a few days before Christmas and doing all our editing early in the New Year so I'm full-time on Line Of Duty."

When asked about when a new series would return, he responded: "I'm really not going to speculate on that because there's so many factors that would go into it.

"It's all about the script development, the production schedule and a whole bunch of things that are all part of a giant jigsaw puzzle which have to be put together with any production."
