With Game of Thrones absolutely, fully over (*sob*) a lot of us are looking for a new series to get stuck into.

Enter HBO, who have collaborated with the BBC for a brand new TV adaptation of Philip Pullman's book series His Dark Materials - and the first trailer has just landed.

The entire series (that's all three books) has been turned into a TV series of the same name.

The franchise was hugely popular with kids and teenagers in the late nineties, and was previously adapted into a (not very successful) film in 2007 starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman.

The books follow the adventures of two children, Lyra Belcaqua and Will Parry, as they make travel through a series of parallel universes.

Pullman's fans will be delighted with the new adaptation if the trailer is anything to go by, as it gives them a first glimpse of James McAvoy as Lord Asriel alongside witches, demons and talking polar bears.

The story follows the adventures of Lyra (played by Dafne Keen), an orphan who is searching for her friend who has been kidnapped. That quest takes her to various lands in a world where people's souls show themselves as shape-shifting animals called daemons.

The first season, as seen in the above trailer, is based on the first book, entitled Northern Lights. Some people are calling it "Game of Thrones for kids", which could just be down to the timing of the trailer's release. Still, it's well worth a shot, definitely if you're a fan of the books - maybe the show will get everything right that the film couldn't manage to?

The series will premiere in late 2019, so we're afraid you'll have to wait until then to find out more. The other books in the series, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, will likely be explored in the upcoming seasons.
