‘The Society’ Renewed For Second Season On Netflix

We were left on a cliffhanger when season one of The Society ended with the group of teenagers learning that they're living in a separate universe while their parents and siblings continue living in another.

But luckily we don't have too long to wait to discover the fate of Campbell, Allie and co. as Netflix has just announced it will be renewing the show for a second season.

Going into production later this year for a 2020 launch, the streamer announced the news with a 55-second clip on its YouTube channel.

"To the citizens of New Ham, we have some big news...really big news. Like bigger than that time Gordie figured out we were in a parallel universe," the series' cast enthused over a series of self-recorded clips. "We're making season two of The Society!"

"Do you know what this means? More pie, more memes, more answers about Charlie, Becca's baby daddy and Grizz's hair."

Oh the suspense!

A millennial drama series loosely based around the 1954 Nobel Prize-winning novel Lord of the Flies, The Society follows the aforementioned teems who return from a canceled school field trip to find that their parents are missing and they've been transported to a strange version of their neighbourhood.

Nothing makes sense in this topsy-turvy world, but the crew must band together to create a new normal as they work to solve the mystery of what has happened to them, while trying to get home to their families.

"Season one deals a lot with men versus women, and it deals only briefly with race, but I think you can expect that conversation about class and race to keep coming," creator Chris Keyser told The Hollywood Reporter. "All these things need to be re-litigated in a world where there are no givens. We hope [...] to explore all social contract questions that we take for granted."

All our favourite cast members are expected to return for season two, including Big Little Lies' Kathryn Newton as Allie, Gideon Adlon as Becca, Sean Berdy as Sam, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Helena and Jacques Colimon as Will LeClair, with Grace Victoria Cox also set to have a bigger role.

The exact release date is still to be announced, but the cast have assured us it will be "worth the wait".

Until then, you can watch the full announcement above.
