Peaky Blinders Director Confirms Film Script Is In Development
It has been revealed that the script for a Peaky Blinders film is currently being written by series creator Steven Knight.
In a recent interview Yahoo Movies, Otto Bathurst who directed three episodes of season one of the gangster drama, revealed that a script was in the works.
Speaking to Yahoo Movies, Otto said: "I think it's actually being written. I think Steve, Steve Knight the writer, I think they're planning something, yeah."
Although he won a BAFTA for his work on Peaky Blinders Otto said that when it comes to directing the movie, he "hasn't been asked yet."
The idea of a film was teased in 2016 by Knight and last year he said it 'was probably going to happen' but knowing a script is being worked on makes the dream feel a little bit more real.
In a recent interview with Esquire Cillian Murphy said he was pretty open to the idea of a film; "I think Steve [Knight] has some ideas. You'd have to be careful, but I'd be curious to do it."
The cast are currently filming series five of the drama and thankfully we know that it wont be the final series.
Steven Knight is hoping that the seventh series will mark the end of the show. He said: "My ambition is to make it a story of a family between two wars, so always I've wanted to end it with the first air raid siren in Birmingham in 1939. It'll take three more series [to reach that point]."
The fifth series will be dropping in 2019 and will will pick up in the aftermath of the 1929 stock market crash.
The official synopsis of series five reads: "Series five of Steven Knight's crime family saga finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere.
"When Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy) is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family's future but that of the entire nation."
