Earlier today, it was announced that Love Island's Sherif Lanre had been axed from the villa after breaking show rules, and his exit has now been addressed on the show - albeit a little minimally.

While various rumours have been spreading through the Twittersphere - there was talk of a secret phone, which are banned from the show - producers addressed the incident this evening with a simple statement from voiceover man Iain Stirling.

The narrator again announced that following a conversation with producers, Sherif "mutually decided to leave the villa".

A spokesperson for the show previously confirmed that Sherif "mutually agreed" to leave after conversations with producers, and the islander quickly made the following statement: "In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa."

"I regret that I didn't conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20-year-old guy, it's something I know I will take on board and learn from," Sheriff also added to his statement.

Viewers were left fuming over the lack of explanation of Sherif's low-key departure. The show didn't air a reaction from Anna Vakili , who the chef has been coupled up with, or the Islanders in regards to the news.

Having spent just nine days in the Love Island villa, Sherif struggled to get his budding relationship with pharmacist Anna off the ground due to his laid-back demeanour - and not forgetting some unwelcome competition from Scotsman Anton Danyluk.

However, it seemed things were starting to look up for the chef when the couple shared their first kiss on Sunday night's episode.

It looks like he may be back to square one though, as no doubt Anna will be tempted to recouple with the next singleton who catches her eye.

Sherif was picked to be part of this year's original Love Island line-up after being scouted while buying his lunch, and described himself as "cheeky, confident and pretty flamboyant" when he first introduced himself to viewers in May of this year.

Well, whatever the reason for Sherif's departure, at least we're getting two new 'bombshell' Islanders to make up for it!
