'The Jinx' Has Been Voted The Best True Crime Documentary To Watch
True-crime documentaries seem to be at the top of everybody's watch list at the moment, thanks to the success of Netflix' Making A Murderer and Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, but what is the best binge-worthy true crime doc out there? Well, according to Ranker, The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst took the people's top spot.
The HBO miniseries follows the life of New York real estate heir Robert Durst who was accused of the murder following the disappearance of his wife Kathie in 1982, the execution style death of writer Susan Berman in 2000 and the dismemberment of his next door neighbour Morris Black in 2001.
He was suspected to be involved in the first two cases and confessed to the third, though he argued self defence and was acquitted at trial.
Similarly to Making A Murderer, The Jinx is made up of existing media footage, police footage, security footage and archived interviews, along with recent interviews and reenactments.
In second place on the ranking site is Netflix's Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father, a documentary created by Kurt Kuenne, who's close friend Andrew Bagby was murdered shortly after he ended a relationship with Shirley Jane Turner.
Shirley was arrested as a suspect before she revealed she was pregnant with Andrew's baby - who she later named Zachary.
Kurt began filming relatives, friends and associates of Andrews to serve as a cinematic scrapbook for Zachary, but as the story moves along it turns into a true crime documentary.
After Shirley fled to Canada she somehow was allowed shared custody of Zachary with Andrew's parents, thanks to flaws in the American and Canadian justice system, despite evidence that she was emotionally and mentally disturbed.
You can stream the documentary on US Netflix now.
The online streaming giant recently released a list of must watch true crime docs available on the site and it's a pretty impressive viewing list.
Netflix recommends Shadow of Truth, Casting Jonbenet, Evil Genius, The Confession Tapes, The Keepers, Wild Wild Country and Captive for 18 Years: The Jaycee Lee Story.
The extensive list was recommended for people who also enjoyed watching Abducted in Plain Sight, which I think we can all agree is the most bizarre and twisted pieces of television we've ever experienced.
If you haven't already, we suggest you clear your busy schedule to watch it ASAP.
