While the whole world seems to be talking about Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, another film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival which is being compared to some of the scariest films ever made.
The Hole in the Ground follows the life of Sarah (Seána Kerslake), a concerned mum who notices some unnerving changes about her son after he goes missing in the forest.
It's understandable that Christopher's (James Quinn Markey) character could change as a result of a traumatic experience, and while the film does suggest Sarah has experienced some domestic abuse, there could also be something far more sinister afoot.

We're talking terrifying old women and spiders filling Sarah and Christopher's isolated home, breeding paranoia and confusion which eventually comes to a head in the form of a giant hole in the ground.
The synopsis for the film reads: "Trying to escape her broken past, Sarah O'Neill is building a new life on the fringes of a backwood rural town with her young son Chris.
"A terrifying encounter with a mysterious neighbour shatters her fragile security, throwing Sarah into a spiralling nightmare of paranoia and mistrust, as she tries to uncover if the disturbing changes in her little boy are connected to an ominous sinkhole buried deep in the forest that borders their home."
After it's premiere, Rafael Motamayor from Bloody Disgusting wrote: "The Hole in the Ground doesn't hide its influences, from the more obvious like The Babadook, to a wallpaper that looks eerily similar to the rugs in the Overlook Hotel, to even a pinch of The Descent."
It all sounds a bit strange, but the movie has been dubbed as 'a game changer for Irish horror' by Spin 103.8, as it's already compared to some of the most terrifying films we've ever seen before.

The Hole in the Ground is set to appear in UK cinemas from 1st March 2019.
