'The Disappearance Of Madeleine McCann' Will Hit Launches On Netflix Tomorrow

Netflix's eagerly anticipated documentary The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann will hit the online streaming service tomorrow, and the trailer looks harrowing...

The synopsis listed on Netflix reads: "A couple's grief over their daughter's disappearance is compounded by a frenzied media and a detective's mistaken belief that they played a part."

It's thought the film will provide a detailed look into the missing persons case of three-year-old Madeleine McCann, which has since become most high profile child disappearance case worldwide.

Madeleine vanished from her bedroom while on holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal with her family in May 2007 and the case remains unsolved almost 12 years later.

She had been left with her younger siblings while her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, were out for dinner in a tapas restaurant.

Kate and Gerry were made persons of interest by the Portuguese police investigation but this was dropped when the probe was closed in 2008.

The couple have always denied having any involvement in their daughter's disappearance and maintain they will do "whatever it takes, for as long as it takes" to find her.

Despite numerous offers from the filmmakers, Kate and Gerry declined to take part in the documentary, with their former spokesperson insisting: "We want nothing to do with it."

A source inside the production team added: "We would have welcomed the opportunity of working with the McCanns directly but they informed us they couldn't and wouldn't consider taking part while a police investigation is into their daughter's abduction is ongoing."

It's thought Netflix had hoped the documentary would be ready to screen last year, but production took longer than expected.

But, Netflix is still hopeful it'll follow in the huge success of other true crime dramas like Abducted In Plain Sight.

The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann will be available to stream on Netflix from 15th March.
