The Dirty John TV series is coming to Netflix on Valentine's Day and it's the perfect watch for the cynics (dare we say, realists) out there.

In case you haven't heard of Dirty John, it was a podcast phenomenon created by Christopher Goffard, and depicts the true story of couple John Meehan and Debra Newell.

Anaesthetist John uses his charm to work his way into successful interior designer Debra's life, thanks to allure and good looks.

Within two months he managed to convince her to marry him in Las Vegas, in what transpired to be a blatant attempt to get his hands on her money.

But, Debra's daughters, Veronica and Terra were suspicious of the charming yet angry John and tried to convince their mother that John is no good for her. Sadly their attempts created a rift with their beloved mum and allowed John to dig his claws in even deeper.

We won't go any further than that so not to spoil the story, but what else would you rather sit down and binge with your other half while enjoying a romantic M&S Meal For Two?

The show originally aired on Bravo in the United States and stars Eric Banas as John and Nashville star Connie Britton as Debra.

June Temple takes on the role as Debra's daughter, Veronica, while Julie Garner plays Terra.

If you're single and looking for a way to celebrate the day of love then Dirty John could also be right up your street as it provides a valuable reminder that you never know what is going on behind closed doors.

Executive producer, Jefferey Reiner, told Vanity Fair: "It's all about, 'Who is John?'. . . We go back in time [and include] things that were not necessarily in the podcast."

In the making of the series, Connie revealed she spent a lot of time with the real-life victim, Debra, telling the publication: "We actually spent a good deal of time together. It's helping to give so much insight into the story in a way that maybe we weren't able to experience in the podcast."

Dirty John is set to be released on the online streaming giant on 14th February 2019.
