The Inbetweeners fans were 'fuming' over last night's two-hour long reunion show as they realised that the special wasn't a one-off episode of the sitcom.

Fronted by Jimmy Carr, The Inbetweeners Fwends Reunited 10th Anniversary show saw Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison and James Buckley reunite to chat about their favourite moments from the series.

But viewers took to Twitter to express their disappointment and instead branded the show as 'disappointing', 'painful' and 'awkward'.

Other fans were annoyed at the chat show-style as they believed they were going to be settling down to watch a one-off episode of the show.

One viewer wrote: "The Inbetweeners reunion was toe-curling... The biggest disappointment of 2019 has already happened, Inbetweeners Fwends Reunited, what is this sh*t ffs."

Another added: "Format of this show is f**king awful. Get rid of Jimmy Carr, get rid of the pointless awards and lets just have the cast anecdotes #fwendsreunited."

"I was so psyched for the #inbetweenersreunion but it's turned out to be absolutely sh*te," added another upset fan.

However, some fans took to Twitter to complain about those moaning the reunion was not a new episode.

One wrote: "If I see one more person complain that The Inbetweeners reunion wasn't a new episode I might delete my whole account because it was made so clear that it was a reunion. roll on 2020."

Despite some viewers being upset with last night's show, the reunion did give fans an insight into what went on behind-the-scenes of the sitcom.

It was revealed that former Doctor Who star Matt Smith had actually auditioned for the role of Jay but was unsuccessful.

The line-up could have looked completely different as James Buckley actually auditioned for the role of Neil but was paired up with Jay after creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris heard of his behaviour off-screen.
