Halloween Breaks Huge International Film Record On Opening Weekend

The latest horror film in the Halloween franchise was released last week, and the flick has already enjoyed a record breaking opening weekend.

Halloween grossed $77.5 million (£59.2m) in the US box office over the three days since its release, making it the most successful movie in the franchise.

Figures show that it beat Rob Zombie's remake, which brought in $58m (£44.3m) in 2017, and Halloween: H20 which earned $55m (£42m) in 1998.

During the opening weekend, it also made $14.3m (£10.9m) at the box office overseas.

Halloween is now also the biggest horror movie opening with a female lead and the biggest movie opening with a female lead over 55.

This is all down to Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her role as Laurie Strode and showing no mercy against Mike Myers.

The film picks up 40 years after the original, and is a straight-up sequel to the 1978 classic and disregards any of the previous sequels.

This means Laurie doesn't have a son like she did in Halloween H:20, but instead she has a daughter Karen, played by Judy Greer (Arrested Development).

The fact that Laurie and Michael were siblings is also missing from the latest film.

The slasher film was also a big hit with critics, earning an 80 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

There was high hopes for the film when its trailer was released in September, which showed Mike stalking his hometown as the children went trick or treating.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Halloween film without a few murder or two, and we see Mike killing anyone who gets in his way.

The trailer also teased a final battle between Laurie and Mike, which we guess looks even better on the big screen.
