Sandra stars as Malorie Shannon, a mother who is trying to save her two children from the mysterious force.

The only thing that is certain is that if you see the force, you take your life. To survive, Malorie will have to undertake a perilous journey with her children while they are all blindfolded.

At the beginning of the trailer, it switches between scenes of the post-apocalyptic world and life before the mysterious force arrived.

Trevante Rhodes' character Tom narrates the opening by recalling a story from his childhood when he would go boating on a lake.

Viewers are then shown the strength of the mysterious entity making people take their own lives. The trailer switches to a scene of Malorie as her sister tries to crash the car they are in as the force takes over.

Malorie says: "We were just driving, and then she saw something.

The force is described as 'pure evil', and during the trailer Malorie is told of a safe place. However to get there, she needs to use the river while blindfolded.

Sandra's character and her children then set off on a journey down a violent river in a rowboat with their blindfolds on.

The mum warns her children to never take their blindfolds off.

However, the ending of the trailer hears a voice whisper "open your eyes" to the children, and ends with Malorie's daughter saying: "Did you hear that? The creatures."

The film is is based on Josh Malerman's 2014 novel and the full synopsis sounds even more petrifying.

It reads: When a mysterious force decimates the world's population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life.

"Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary.

"But to survive, they'll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.

"Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock leads an all-star cast that includes Trevante Rhodes, with Sarah Paulson, and John Malkovich in #BirdBox, a compelling new thriller from Academy Award winner Susanne Bier."

Even Rotten Tomatoes tweeted out the trailer, telling its followers the post-apocalyptic thriller "feels like Stephen King meets #AQuietPlace".
