'Naked Beach' Viewers Complain Over Nudity Shown Before Watershed

"Willies before the watershed my 9 year old loved that!"

Viewers of Channel 4's Naked Beach were baffled after nudity aired on the show pre-watershed last night.

The premise of the show is based on a social experiment, which sees a group of people visit a Greek island retreat to overcome their body image issues over the coming weeks.

They are encouraged to feel good within themselves, covering their modesty with just body paint and glitter.

From stretchmarks to wobbly stomachs, Elysia, Darrell and Kaye were seen overcoming their body confidence issues throughout the programme.

Naked Beach aired on the broadcaster at 8pm yesterday (Thursday, 12th April), but a flurry of viewers were quick to complain over the pre-watershed nudity despite the trio's relatable issues.

British TV holds a 9pm watershed, which means that any content broadcast before this time must be suitable for children. And some viewers felt the show wasn't complying, taking to Twitter to vent.

"Why have I just turned on my TV and seeing a naked penis before 9pm?!" exclaimed one.

Another declared: "Willies before the watershed my 9 year old loved that!"

Ofcom told Pretty52 that it received a total of 16 complaints from annoyed viewers.

An Ofcom spokesperson told us: "We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate."

Others were quick to point out that the show would be a positive influence on those younger to give them a healthy attitude towards body image and self-confidence.

One person tweeted: "I would [have] thought the it would be more helpful for younger people to watch #NakedBeach before the water shed to give them a better perspective on body confidence and self image sooner before issues set in, f*ck the watershed [sic]."

"Worried about the watershed? What about the children? Worried that a son or daughter will ask an awkward question about nudity that will embarrass you? Just breathe. Answer calmly. It's a body. Nothing more nothing less," echoed somebody else.

We couldn't have put it better ourselves.

Naked Beach airs on Channel 4 at 8pm next Thursday.
