Love Island viewers have claimed they've "caught" Michael Griffiths lying during last night's episode of the ITV2 dating series.

Making a massive U-turn, the Liverpudlian confessed his feelings for Amber Gill, despite telling her earlier this week that they were never going to couple up again in the wake of Joanna Chimonides being dumped from the Island.

Speaking to Amber on the deck chairs, the firefighter, 27, went back on his initial comments and admitted: "The situation that I am in now has given me time to clarify a few things in my head.

"It's given me time to think and realise I do like Amber. I can only apologise about how I was over the last few weeks. I'm just letting you know that I do still like you."

Shocked by his admission, the Geordie, 21, responded: "I don't get it. If you liked me the whole time, why would you do that? Would you still have done this if she [Joanna] was still here?"

Trying to convince her, Michael, who was earlier this week devastated when Joanna left, revealed: "Yes. I would have to have this conversation. I knew that I still liked you. I just kept denying it to myself."

Aware of Michael's denials during the week, Amber grilled him over the moment at the party, when following Joanna's shock dumping and he told the islanders he'd found the person he was looking for.

She recalled: "What the hell was all that you were saying? Your philosophical words of 'I've found what I'm looking for' and all that jazz?"

Realising his mistake, Michael went on the charm offensive and tried to claim that he never actually said who he was talking about, as if his words were in fact about her.

He replied, asking the 21-year-old: "Did you hear me say anything about any specific person?"

The pair locked lips during last night's episode.

A stunned Amber responded: "Like that. Wow. Like that" before later admitting in the Beach Hut she was taken aback by Michael's change of heart and said: "I actually cannot believe what is happening!"

Although Michael's smooth words may have been music to Amber's ears, viewers at home have branded him a liar, after recalling what he actually said that night.

The Liverpudlian told host Caroline Flack that he'd found what he was looking for and that she was "leaving", referring to new partner Joanna who was dumped, not Amber.

Taking to Twitter, one fan said: "Michael is a compulsive liar, how this man willingly lies unprovoked is beyond me he acc needs to get rushed [sic]."

"OK so that was the BIGGEST lie of the season lmao amber kick him into touch," another shared.

A third agreed: "DON'T BELIEVE HIM AMBER! He is CLEARLY lying."

Oh the drama!
