Lindsay Lohan says the 'whole' cast of Mean Girls is open to reuniting for a sequel - and she even teased that there could be some special celebrity cameos.

"The whole cast wants to do it, but we have to make sure we're all doing it together," Lohan told Entertainment Tonight. "Jimmy Fallon's also going for it too. He was helping me out today, actually."

The 2004 cult comedy, scripted by 30 Rock's Tina Fey and based on the book 'Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman', made a big splash back into pop culture recently when Ariana Grande used the film as inspiration for her 'thank u, next' music video.

And Lohan, who is set to star in the upcoming reality show Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club, thoroughly approved. "I loved it," she continued telling ET. "I thought it was great. It was really well done, a really nice homage."

Joking about where her character Cady might be today, Lohan said: "In Africa with her gorillas and animals. She'd probably be so afraid of [the titular mean girls] that she had to move home."

In 2016, she told Howard Stern: "In general, I don't know why I didn't just try to do Mean Girls 2. Everyone does [sequels]."

This news comes after Mean Girls was voted the best teen movie of all time. According to film ranking website Ranker, the 2004 high school favourite is top of the list when it comes to PG-13 teen films.

Sitting solidly in second place is feelgood musical Pitch Perfect, closely followed by 1995 classic Clueless, which is ranked as the third best teen film.
